What is Flatbush Theater Project?

Flatbush Theater Project is a seasonal 13 week workshop of improvisational theater technique progressing into playwriting and performance of original work for children, who we often call “prequels” to Flatbush Theater Project, pre-teens and teens.

Up to 12 young people meet twice weekly after school to train in theater technique, devising plays, and rehearsing them.

Flatbush Theater Project was formed with an idea that a safe space can be created for young people to express the full range of human psychology. In other words, whatever characteristics in the scope of human behavior and motivation that our students can imagine, they can portray. We endeavor to make sure that while here, our students are seen, heard, valued, and above all celebrated. We are committed to inclusivity, regardless of gender expression, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, and/ or disability.

While our aim is not to be provocative, art often does provoke. Our aim is to let our students create, with respect and support for each other, a place where they can explore their imaginations and harmful societal norms can be challenged.
